Glanson LaBarrie has been officially DJing for two and a half years, yet one would swear that he is a veteran. He began serving up hot beats with spice and soul at small gigs in malls, retail boutiques, and house parties in the DC metro area. It wasn't long before opportunities began opening up for this fresh and original talent. Now, it's just a matter of speaking to the right people at the right time. When chance knocks at his door, he will present himself properly by turning out the masses that have come to hear him spin his magic. Without a residency, DJ Glanson views his introduction to the tables as a wonderful opportunity to showcase his talent and his vision of true "house music." Trust, this man knows how to serve a proper rendition of house, a unique sound in which many have forgotten to do their homework. Break out the steno pads and pencils and take notes ladies, for this DJ is taking you to school. His style is progressive, focusing on the soul and break-beat aspects of delivering house music. Always respecting the origin of house music, this artist is quickly learning to take risks in any given situation. As Shep Pettibone declared, "You haven't DJ'd until you clear a dance floor." His technique incorporates dropping, mixing, and creating new tunes by mixing accapella with instrumentals. When he's not between the headphones, Glanson attends college at the University of Maryland-College Park. Most everywhere else, he can be found listening to R&B, hip-hop, and all genres of music. In the future, Glanson looks to get more into music production, but currently is concentrating on honing his skills and building a stronger fan base stretching from DC to NYC. The biggest influences of DJ Glanson's sound would be three of the greats of modern era NYC house: Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, and Victor Calderone. Glanson also holds much respect for the unparalleled creators Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles. Not only does he admire the talent and skills of these individuals, but aspires to master the craft in a like manner, and from what the crowd has heard so far, he is on the right track. |
