Guy Jacob Smith began designing and running lights for many of Boston's gay nightclubs in 1991. After completing his degree in Psychology and working for two years as an inpatient psychiatric and family counselor, he abruptly changed careers to design lighting full time in 1995. Guy was lighting director for Boston's more popular clubs such as Quest, Venus de Milo, and Avalon. He also designed the rigs for Boston's larger gay parties, and he designed large corporate events. Guy moved to Washington DC to direct Tracks nightclub's lighting system, then to New York City in 1998. He has since concentrated on designing lighting for theater, including Shakespeare on the Hudson, and for concerts and special events, such as Diana Ross, Pavarotti, the Three Irish Tenors, Donna Summer, and Justin Timberlake, at venues such as Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Jones Beach Amphitheater, the Regency, and Hammerstein Ballroom, to name a few. He is resident designer for all Atlantis Events cruises and circuit parties, and has also been involved with the Saint at Large since 1998, and has been the resident lighting director there since 2000. He has also recently designed the Pines Party, Dancing on the Bay, and Gay Pride Pier Dance. Guy still designs innovative and groundbreaking nightclubs, and has recently designed the 8300 person venue 'Ageha' in Tokyo, and Spirit New York. |
